Lisa Curry’s bittersweet Mother’s Day: Olympian braves a smile as she spends time with her daughter Morgan Gruell and husband Mark Tabone – two years after her daughter Jaimi’s tragic death

Lisa Curry spent time with her family on Mother’s Day over the weekend, two years after the tragic death of her daughter Jaimi.

The former Olympian, 59, visited a park on the Sunshine Coast with her husband Mark Tabone, her daughter Morgan Gruell and grandchildren.

At times, the mother-of-three looked downcast and deep in thought as she sat on a park bench, but managed to raise a smile as she captured photos of her beloved grandchildren on her iPhone.

Lisa snapped away as her grandsons Flynn, three, and Taj, one, ran across the lawn.

She stayed close to her husband Mark and his daughter Leticia as Taj played nearby.

Lisa’s daughter Jaimi tragically died in September 2020 at the age of 33, following a lengthy battle with alcohol addiction and an eating disorder.

Jaimi was Lisa’s daughter from her marriage to ex-husband Grant Kenny, a fellow Olympian and former Ironman.

She died at Sunshine Coast University Hospital on September 14, 2020, surrounded by her family.

She was receiving treatment for an eating disorder at the time of her death.

Lisa and Grant married in 1984, separated in 2009 and welcomed three children together: son Jett, 28, and daughters Morgan, 31, and Jaimi.

Last week, Lisa told Today Extra hosts David Campbell and Sylvia Jeffreys that she has a thumb print of her late daughter Jaimi imprinted on a necklace, which she carries with her ‘always’.

‘She’s never far away. She’s always around somehow,’ Lisa said. ‘This is a little gift that I gave to our whole family. It’s her thumb print that they took for us.

‘It’s always a reminder to look after yourself and live your best life.’

‘It’s difficult, as you can see. Grant hasn’t said anything, because he can’t. You can think you know what grief is, but until you’re in it it’s completely different,’ she said.

‘I’ve had Mark by my side, and my kids, and Grant and if it wasn’t for them… some days you just, can’t.’
